Sixty tabs of trip research and nobody can find the good rental

The research is real; the storage is not

Flights in six tabs because you are comparing dates. Four rentals with different cancellation terms. Three "12 best things to do in" articles. A maps tab with eleven pins. A hotel someone's coworker recommended, in a text message.

Half of it is on one laptop and half on the other. Nobody can see the whole picture, so the same rental gets found twice and the one you both liked on Tuesday cannot be located on Saturday. The browser closes, or updates, and the comparison is gone.

One board per trip, four categories

Make a board named for the trip and give it four categories: Stay, Eat, Do, Logistics. Logistics is the one people skip and then need most — the airline's baggage rules, the rental car confirmation, the transit map, the passport renewal page, the pet sitter.

Two people researching the same trip need one page, not two browsers.Share the board and both of you save into it from wherever you are browsing, with the keyboard shortcut, the right-click menu or the extension popup. Put the price and the cancellation date in each link's description so the comparison survives the week.

• Stay: each option with price, dates held and the cancellation deadline in the description
• Do: one link per thing, not one link per listicle
• Logistics: confirmations, transit, baggage rules, the thing you will need at 6am
• A checklist on the board: book flights, book car, hold the rental, tell the bank

Park the tabs instead of keeping them open

When you have twenty comparison tabs open and have to stop, save them all as a session. A saved window reopens later as one browser window, in one action, so you can put the whole comparison back on screen the evening you actually decide.

You can also turn on the opt-in auto-saved browser snapshots, which give you crash restore and restore on a new machine, including window positions. That is aimed at the moment your laptop reboots for an update in the middle of comparing flights.

When to bother

For a weekend away with two bookings, a shared note is fine — do not build a board for that. This is for the trip with multiple stops, two people researching, and a booking window weeks out, where the cost of losing a link is real money.

Afterward the board keeps working: it becomes the trip's reference while you are traveling, opened in a phone browser. Be aware that Linksley has no mobile app and no Safari extension — the mobile experience is the web app in a browser, and the organizing happens on a desktop. When the trip is over, delete the board or keep it as the notes for the next time someone asks where you stayed.
