Privacy policy

Effective July 18, 2026 · Applies to linksley.com and the Linksley browser extension.

Linksley is a bookmark manager. Our business is subscriptions, not data: we don't sell your information, we don't show third-party ads, and we collect only what the product needs to work.

What we collect

• Account information — your name, email address, and a hashed password (we never store the password itself).
• Your content — the boards, categories, and links (URL + title) you choose to save, and who you share boards with.
• Billing — paid plans are processed by Stripe; card details go to Stripe, not to us. We keep the subscription status.
• Usage basics — sign-in times (used, for example, to warn you before an inactive free workspace is archived) and standard server logs.
• Analytics — if enabled, we use Google Analytics on the website to understand aggregate traffic. It does not read your boards or links.

The browser extension

• It communicates only with linksley.com — your own account — to sign you in, read your boards, and save the pages you explicitly choose to save (their URL and title).
• The extension never reads the body of a page and never touches your search results. When you save a page it passes on that page’s title and the short description the page publishes about itself — the same text it hands to search engines — and nothing else.
• Tab sessions — when you save a window as a session, the extension stores each tab’s address, title, and favicon on your account so you can reopen it anywhere. Auto-save is off until you turn it on; with your consent it keeps a rolling snapshot of your open windows and tabs (rotating the newest few, ten by default) for crash recovery and moving between computers. Sign-in links and one-time codes are stripped before anything is saved, on your device and again on our server. You can pause auto-save or delete any session at any time, and deleting your account deletes them all.
• Your sign-in token and a cache of your boards are stored locally in your browser so the popup and new-tab page load instantly.
• The optional bookmark-bar mirror, the in-drawer bookmark-bar manager, and the one-time bookmark import run in your browser at your request; outside the actions you take there, your existing bookmarks are never modified or deleted.
• The new-tab page may show a clearly labelled Sponsored recommendation to signed-in users. These are configured by us, may carry a referral tag, and are never selected using your boards, links, or browsing.

Smart summaries (AI)

Linksley can write a short description of each page you save — what it is, who it’s for, when you’d reach for it — so you can find a bookmark by describing it instead of remembering its name. How much it may use is your workspace’s choice, in Settings → Plan & billing → Privacy:

• Off — nothing is analysed at all.
• From the page’s own description — the title, the address, and the description the page publishes about itself. Nothing extra is fetched or read.
• Read the full page — our server also visits the page and reads it. It visits as an anonymous stranger with no access to your accounts, so anything behind a sign-in stays unreadable to us.

• Summaries are written on our own hardware, by our own model. Your pages are never sent to an outside AI provider — not to build the summary, and not as a fallback if our system is busy or down. If it is unavailable the work simply waits.
• Email addresses, phone numbers and long number sequences are removed before any text is summarised, not merely left out of the result.
• The page text is deleted as soon as the description is written. We keep the short description, not a copy of the page.
• Nothing here is used to train any model, ours or anyone else’s.
• Turning it off stops future summaries and clears anything waiting to be summarised.

Boards you publish to the open web

Publishing a board puts it on the public internet under our domain, so we screen it for abuse — the same as any host has to. This applies only to boards published publicly. A private board, or one shared with your workspace or a group, is never screened and never leaves our systems for this.

• What is checked — the page’s name, address, tagline and description, your category names, and the titles, notes, descriptions and addresses of the links on it. We also read the text of the pages it links to, since a clean-looking list can point anywhere.
• Who checks it — a third-party content classifier (currently OpenAI’s moderation service, configurable by us). This is the one place Linksley sends content to an outside provider, and it exists because that content is already public. It is not used to train anything.
• What happens next — clearly abusive content stops resolving immediately; borderline cases are held for a person to review. Either way the board’s owner is emailed, with the reason, and a re-check runs automatically on the next edit.
• Unpublish a board and the screening stops with it.

What we never do

• Sell or rent your data to anyone.
• Use your data for anything unrelated to running Linksley.
• Use your data for advertising, profiling, or creditworthiness decisions.

Sharing and service providers

Your boards are visible only to you and the people you share them with. We use a small set of processors to run the service — hosting, Stripe for payments, and our email provider for transactional emails (welcome, password reset, account notices). Each receives only what it needs.

Retention and deletion

Your data stays as long as your account is active. Inactive free workspaces are warned by email, then archived, and eventually deleted. You can delete links, boards, or your whole account at any time; deletion is permanent after the trash retention window.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your data. Signed-in users can reach us any time via linksley.com/support — we answer to your account email.
