Twelve tiles is plenty until it is not
The grid worked for a month. Then the client portal arrived, and the staging environment, and the two dashboards, and the vendor login you use every Thursday, and now you are choosing which tile to sacrifice. It renders instantly from a local cache, so a new tab does not sit blank waiting on a network round trip. Turn on star capture and pressing the browser's own bookmark star files the page onto a private Unsorted board, so quick saves land somewhere instead of nowhere.
It follows you to the other machine
Boards live in your account, not in a browser profile, so the same new tab appears on the desktop, the laptop, and whichever browser you have open - Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Opera. There is no Safari extension, which is worth knowing up front if you work on a Mac in Safari.
The same account holds the rest of the workspace. Sessions save every open tab and window, and a saved window reopens as one browser window. Optional automatic snapshots make a crash or a new machine a restore rather than a reconstruction, including window positions, and the bookmark bar manager can mirror and restore your bar.
The thing a speed dial cannot do at all
A speed dial holds the sites you visit; Linksley holds the sites your work depends on.Boards are shareable: give a board to a person or a group, cap anyone at view-only (enforced in the app and in the extension), and grant Can share only where you mean to.
For a team, that turns the new tab into a distribution channel. An admin can push a required board that members cannot remove, so every new hire's first new tab already has the right links. When someone leaves, one revoke removes their access and every link stays with the workspace. On the Business plan, white-label puts your own logo on the app, the extension, and the new tab.
When a plain speed dial is enough
If you open the same six sites and nothing else, install a speed dial and stop reading. One install, no account, no subscription, and nothing about that is wrong. Linksley starts earning its place at the point where you have more links than tiles, more than one browser, or more than one person.
